Sunday Lunch at The Sanders’… halloween edition

November 1, 2011

Photobucket
Well… I got my festiveness and coordination from my mother, if not the art of hospitality and cooking.

Photobucket
It’s the details that make the difference. Tay once said, “I like lunches at Teresa’s. It’s not just good food- it feels more special.” It’s because she thinks of all the little things like bat cloth napkins. I’m not even kidding. Haha.

Photobucket
appetizer: homemade pita bread and dips…

Photobucket
The perfect fall meal: roast, carrots, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, warm rolls, coconut pie, and pumpkin pie. I wanted Mom to get a candid picture of all of us enjoying each other, but she made us get all posey which always turns out awkward. But hey, it’s a memory!

Friendship Village Trick-or-Treat 2011

October 28, 2011

Our third annual FVD Trick-or-Treat night.

This year Adry was my little cowboy.
Photobucket
I asked Ben’s mom to make Adry’s costume again this year because I’m broke and can’t sew (and she’s good at stuff like that), and she did a great job as usual. She put fringe on a flannel shirt and made his black vest and put all the other pieces-parts together. It was really nice of her to do so, too, because I called dibs on both trick-or-treat nights this year.

Okay, so Adry verrrrry carefully chose this pixie stick. He weighed all of his options, and upon settling on the pixie stick he held it right under his nose and sniffed the length of it a couple of times before approving and putting it in his bucket.

Photobucket
This really makes me giggle. At least Jessie was successful!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Adry consistently tells me he wants Jessie to be his girlfriend. He has a major crush. He’s been turning every other age-appropriate lady down these days, so I think it’s pretty legit.

I am amazed at how photogenic our kids are. Every time! haha

Photobucket
When I told Adry he could eat his candy the first thing he went for was that pixie stick. And he loved it, apparently taking after his mother whose childhood nickname was ‘Pixie’ for her unhealthy obsession with them.

Photobucket
He got the tube wet so I had to teach him how to consume pure sugar like a true pixie pro. This is why I get the Mother of the Year award every time.

Photobucket

Photobucket
This picture also makes me giggle. I think it captures everyone perfectly. My mother is busy noticing something and probably telling someone what to do about it. Jamie is striking a pose. Jessie is cute and perfect again and like always. Jacob doesn’t give a crap. And Rebecca is oblivious to everything because she is busy running around with a holster around her waist and shooting Adry’s cowboy gun. I love them all!

Photobucket
It was a pleasant night.

Trick-or-Treat 2010: The Year of the Dragon

October 28, 2010
Save pagePDF pageEmail pagePrint page

Totally simple costume this year. One of those zip-up, pull-over-your-clothes, store-bought getups that my momma got, and he refused to wear the hood. …Which kind of cancels out the whole cute factor.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m totally glad Mom got Adry a costume this year because I’ve had a rough few months and pulling together a homemade costume was the last thing on my mind, but… Moms, do you ever feel like you are gypping your neighbors out of their mini candy bars when your kid walks up in a one-piece, pre-made fancy stuffed sleeper with wings and holds out their bucket all like, “Look at me in my ‘costume’, compliment me, and then hurry up and give me my free flavored sugar, Lady. I worked hard for this.” And then right behind your kid is an adorable girl in an effing homemade unicorn costume and you just wanna be all, “Way to show up my headless dragon sleeper. You couldn’t trick-or-treat across the street!?”

The important thing is that he had fun and it was a good experience. AND he was cute anyhow. We went to the Jordans’ to hang out with them and the Parks’ and some other folks, and drink steaming punch and eat pizza etc… Plus, their neighborhood is the best Beggar’s Night neighborhood I’ve ever been to. It’s PACKED full of kids, and a majority of the homes are decorated and active, and several of the folks who pass out candy dress up. A lot of kids have creative costumes and are genuinely excited for the Trick-or-Treat adventure.

This is a weird photo, but I kind of like it. J was in charge of the camera. I just wish I could pull Adry and I more to the right and/or make those tree branches take up more space.

Adry and I are walking up to the freaky house. Which actually was pretty freakin’ creepy. Costumed guys were staged all around the heavily propped yard and would randomly jump out. Y’all, if it had been a little darker out I would have screamed and jumped out of my skin.

Adry was either slightly creeped out, or puzzled, or amused by the… um… Computer Head Guy? (WTH is he!?) He must have just stared up at him for a full minute. I caught this shot JUST as he turned around to walk away, and Computer Head Guy (???) began to follow him while talking in a creepy voice, which actually did kind of weird Adry out.

Freakin’ love this next picture. Totally captures the true mood of this photoshoot: two moms wishfully thinking that three kids together would just naturally overflow with charm and cooperation with extra love and snuggles and batting eyelashes to go around… and so two moms force three kids into position and WISH them to smile and be happy about it. SMILE, KID! LOVE EACH OTHER! LOVE EACH OTHER AND BE ADORABLE, DANG IT! RIGHT FREAKING NOW! I SAID NOW! And what did the two moms get instead? This:

Two toddler boys who are both all, “ew, girl coodies– She’s touching me!” and a baby girl whose only concern is that she hasn’t developed the muscle strength to sit up on her own and her mother just dumped her on the floor to fend for herself… must.grab.toddler.boys.

It’s no secret: we have the most photogenic children of all time. They know how to dazzle us.

Punkin Patch 2010

October 19, 2010
Save pagePDF pageEmail pagePrint page

This past Sunday J, Rebecca, and I took two crazy toddlers to the pumpkin patch. Parker and Adry.

Photobucket

Adry was all, ‘yay pumpkins and whatever,’ but Parker. Hoo boy. Never EVER before have I witnessed a human being SO EXCITED over a squash.

Photobucket
The boys waiting for the hayride

Photobucket
Classic Uncle Jacob

Photobucket
Oh, hai, Tractor. So, Parker’s little toddler mind is a very active little toddler mind and everything was very stimulating, but as soon as he saw this tractor he stopped dead in his tracks and went into a tractor trance for a good 5 minutes.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Adry apparently takes hayrides very seriously.

Photobucket
The boys in the patch

Photobucket
Parker ran up and down the field intermittently whisper-yelling PUMPKIN. I’m tellin’ ya’- if there is a pumpkin heaven Parker will be there one day.

Photobucket
Apparently hayrides are serious affairs for all toddlers.

Photobucket

On the way home the boys got to hear a story about a Pumpkin Fairy Princess named Penelope who is also a genie that lives in a magical pumpkin and grants wishes… as told by Rebecca.

🙂

I have a whole ‘nother Zoo Picture Post coming soon.

PUMPKIN!
